Carlton Oaks definitely shines on the golf field. The Dye-designed championship course opened for play in 1958 and has been a fixture in the game ever since. But in 1989, the course was completely refurbished by Perry Dye, son of Paul B. “Pete” Dye, who was responsible for the course’s transformation. Pete Dye was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008 as a lifetime achievement recipient for his work in golf course design and construction. When it comes to innovative, demanding, and ecologically friendly golf courses, Dye Designs has built an international reputation. No, Carlton Oaks isn’t any different.

It is possible to play the Carlton Oaks course from as low as 5,039 yards to as high as 7,410 yards, thanks to its six different sets of tees! Players of all skills will enjoy the variety of yardage configurations available to them. Natural river-valley scenery is incorporated into the design, which incorporates a creek, mature trees, and dazzling lakes to create a round of golf that is as visually interesting as it is intellectually challenging. Pot bunkers, railroad ties, and peninsula greens are just a few of the Dye-inspired features that can be found on the course. The golf website golfnow.com says that “Dye has taken Southern California’s magnificent beauty and combined it with the best of modern golf course architecture to produce a course that will go down in history.”

In addition to the actual course, there is a chipping green, a putting green, and a private driving range with all-grass practice facilities. After a comprehensive renovation and rebuilding of the chipping green complex in February 2013, the bentgrass surface provides golfers with an excellent opportunity to lower their scores. Carlton Oaks, the only Dye-designed course in San Diego, is both a pleasure for players and a boon to the environment. More interesting reads.
