Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is a beautiful weekend getaway located in Southern California. Annually, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve attracts more than 760,000 people to the area. In the 190-acre park, you’ll find seven lovely recycled water lakes with year-round sport fish populations. Ray Stoyer Water Reclamation Facility north of Santee Lakes recycles 2,000,000 gal/day, and the water that is recycled flows through Santee Lakes, creating a unique recreational environment. Every day, 2 million gallons of partially treated sewage are saved from entering the Pacific Ocean thanks to our water recycling operation. How many gallons does that equal each year? Our neighborhood golf club, city parks, and schools all consume around half of the water that comes from the Lakes. As a result, the community’s water supply has been boosted without putting any further strain on the taxpayers or ratepayers. More interesting reads.

Campgrounds, cabins for rent, fishing and boating, playgrounds, walking routes, facility rentals, special events, and about 230 bird species are all available at Santee Lakes. Padre Dam Municipal Water District owns and operates Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve. Neither water nor sewage ratepayers nor taxpayer subsidies fund Santee Lakes. Santee Lakes is able to stay open because of guest fees, grants and awards, community collaborations, and sponsorships.
